Peace Out New Zealand!

25 februari 2019 - Christchurch Airport, Nieuw-Zeeland

Hellooo, am back to give you all a little update about my travels!!! I’m really sad to say that after 5 months and 11 days, my time in New Zealand is officially over. At the moment I’m waiting at the Airport in Christchurch for my flight to Melbourne.

Since my last blogpost, I have had an amazing few weeks. Mom came over to join me spening my last week in Paihia. It was so good to see her again. I’ve showed her all my favorite spots in Northland, just as I did with Deen. But this time, this time it was different, cause for me it also was the last time I could go to these places and do these amazing things there. It was pretty hard for me saying goodbye to my New Zealand home and my hostfamily. It’s a weird feeling knowing that that life won’t ever exist again and not knowing whenever I’ll be back to see everyone and be at my favorite places. It was really good having my mom over to leave Paihia with.

After we left Paihia (and after a really good night out in Auckland together ;) ), we hired a car to drive around the North Island for a few days. We drove down to Taupo, with a few short stops on the way to have a glimpse at Hobbiton and see the thermal activity around Rotorua. We went to Taupo to do the best day-hike in New Zealand: The Tongariro Alpine Crossing a.k.a. sort of climbing Mount Doom and walking through Mordor. For me it was rhe second time to do it. After not finishing it (due to snow and storms) back in September, I got to finish it this time!!

Then, we drove southwest to New Plymouth. For the first time in about 5 months I got to see an absolute magical sunset on a beautiful beach, with on land the stunning view of Mount Taranaki. It was magical. Enjoyed every bit of New Plymouth.

We went back to Auckland, my last time in the city. I left mom behind and flew (for the first time) down to the South Island (to Christchurch). I would join the KiwiExperience bus again to finish my trip through New Zealand. Eventhough I already met a few really nice girls the night I arrived, it was really weird and I felt quite sick. During the days I had with my mom, it didn’t feel like I left Paihia and the boys. I still had the idea I would go back there. When I left the North Island, I could feel it. It was also really strange to leave my mom behind in Auckland (she flew home a day later). I had such an unforgettable two weeks with her, and it was quite hard to say goodbye again. Also, I was really scared that I wouldn‘t meet nice people on the bus and that I would end up being all by myself the whole time.

And well, that didn’t happen. In two days I met this amazing bunch of people. Having fun, talking, discussing politics (Brexit, Trump, Geert Wilders, EU etc.), partying, crying, just everything. Guys, you made my last few weeks in New Zealand the best, everything I would’ve wished for.

Because I’ve doing loads of stuff the last few days, I‘ll just tell you about the absolute highlights:

In Kaikoura, I‘ve been swimming with hundreds of Dusky Dolphins after seeing the best sunrise I’ve ever seen. In Kaiteriteri, I got to go on the most relaxed sailing trip having a sneakpeak in Abel Tasman National Park. In Westport, we had a bonfire on the beach. In Lake Mahinapua I got to dress up as something starting with my first letter: JESUS!!! It was a crazy night walking around with bread, a red cup (cause of the wine) and a bible. In Franz Josef, I got to do a........... SKYDIVE. Uhum, yes. I did a f***ing skydive. Who would think that, me jumping out of a plane at 4kms. I was quite nervous before (I mean, obviously when my biggest fear is heights), but damn that skydive was my best decision so far. Seeing the Tasman Sea on one side and the Southern Alps on the other was absolutely magical. In Wanaka we got to do Roys Peak, which brought us crazy views. In Queenstown I got to eat the world’s best burger, see an amazing sunset while being on luges, had a really good nice out and I also got to relax and enjoyed Queenstown’s (and New Zealand’s beauty).  In Dunedin, I got to walk up (and down) the world’s steepest street. In the Catlins, I got to see sealions from just a few metres away. I got to Milford Sound, the 8th World Wonder, which was again, absolutely beautiful. I got go to Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain, where I got close to the Kea Bird (the only Alpine parrot). In Lake Tekapo, well yes, we tried to climb Mount John and also watch the stars, but both didn’t really go as planned :/. In Christchurch, I got to have a really good last night in New Zealand, everything I could’ve wished for.

It’s really hard to leave New Zealand behind. It’ll be my favorite country forever. I got through so much here, and after a few years I got to find my own happiness again. I’ll be forever grateful to those who made my New Zealand / Kiwi Experience. Thank you! :)

Now, I’m off to Melbourne. To visit family for a few days. I can’t wait to meet them and to go to Australia (eventhough it’s just for 5 days :/ ). On Saturday I’ll be flying to Bangkok, for my last few weeks travelling before heading home.

If I get the chance these days I’ll be uploading photos so you’ll be able to actually see what I’ve been upto!

See you later guys. New Zealand is out. xx
